November is Writerly

…and not just because of NaNoWriMo. I have a couple of zines and some short stories and all kinds of stuff I’d love to wrap up soon.

I seem to have at least two different modes for writing. One is all professional and deadline-oriented and trying to be publishable. The other is passionate and fun, the kind of writing I’ve been doing since I was a kid. My fear is that the former will overtake the latter, until one day I might not even know how to write just for myself anymore.

If I can’t write from a place of passion, I’m not sure why I’m writing. But I’ve been having trouble lately finding a way to fuse these two mindsets. I would love to continue being published and find more readers. But I really, really don’t want that to be the only thing I’m working towards.
