New Essay: “The Newsstand Story”

I first stumbled across Bright Wall/Dark Room about a year ago, and quickly became mildly obsessed with it. If you haven’t seen it before, it’s a site that publishes essays about movies – not reviews, per se, but deeper looks at what movies mean to those of us who love them.

I am super happy to announce that the editors are running an essay I wrote today: The Newsstand Story. It’s a look at the movie I Smile Back, which really resonated with me as someone who has dealt with depression for most of my life. It does contain spoilers, so you have now been alerted.

A note to anyone reading this who knows me in real life (hi, Dad!): This essay discusses some emotional crap I’ve experienced in the past. I just want to reassure y’all that at this point in time, I am doing fine!
